Bradford City Hall Group Visit

Join us on a trip to Bradford! Once described as “the wool capital of the world,” and nicknamed “Worstedopolis,” Bradford in 1914 was widely considered one of the wealthiest cities in Europe. In the history of the Bradford Mechanics’ Institute, it records that “at the turn of the century, there were more Rolls-Royce owners in Bradford than any other city in the country.”

Setting off on Thursday 29th October at 8.45am, we are travelling by minibus to Bradford. Our first stop will be Forster Square Station, followed by a visit to the Wool Exchange (now Waterstones) for coffee. At various points, historical information will be given to bring the trip alive.

After coffee, we will set off by foot to City Hall for a guided tour. City Hall was built in 1873 in grand Gothic style and was hailed as a “magnificent architectural triumph.” Grade 1 listed, Bradford City Council says that it was originally designed in Venetian Gothic style with later Italian and French influences. Step-free access available.

Then, we return to our minibus and head to Leeds for lunch at the Cinnamon Kitchen, an Indian restaurant in the Queen’s Hotel, to enjoy a two or three course lunch £15/£19 with drinks, of course!

Finally, we will be heading home arriving mid to late afternoon.
