House Rules
Members are asked to take responsibility for ensuring that their guests comply fully with The Club’s House Rules.
Dress Guidelines
To ensure that everybody feels welcome and comfortable, and to respect the ethos of a private members club, we request that members and their guests are appropriately dressed at all times in a smart casual manner.
Tracksuits, sportswear, cargo pants, shell suits, ripped or torn clothing and baseball hats are not permitted. Tailored shorts and smart jeans are permitted, and jackets and ties are optional. However, more relaxed dress is acceptable in the basement hall, main hall and snug where clean sportswear is acceptable.
If an event requires a particular ‘dress code’, this will be noted on the event announcement.
Outerwear should be left in the vestibule. Hats should be removed when entering The Club.
The Club Manager, or in her absence a member of staff, has the full discretion of the Committee to determine and enforce what constitutes appropriate attire. It is the responsibility of members to inform their guests, prior to their visit, of the House Rules.
If a member is concerned about the dress, or general behaviour of any member or guest they should inform the Club Manager or an Officer of The Club rather than speak to the member themselves.
Use of Mobile Phones and Business Use
Mobile phones and tablets (iPads etc.) may be used for non-conversational tasks, in all areas of The Club but they must be kept on silent at all times.
Telephone calls may only be made or taken in the main hall, basement hall and Titus Salt Room and must be made and received discreetly, in a way that does not disturb other members.
The Titus Salt Room (Members’ Business Room) is available for use by all members for full laptop usage. To be considerate to others, please ensure you wear headphones or earbuds. Please refer to the fair usage policy, displayed in the Titus Salt Room, for further information regarding the use of the room.
For the comfort of members laptops may not be used for any reason in the Malcolm Neesam Room, the Snug or the Snooker Room but can be used in the Reading Room and Members’ Lounge for leisure use only.
Informal face to face business meetings may take place in the Reading Room and during mealtimes in the Malcom Neesam Room. the Victoria Room is available for formal business meetings and may be booked through the Club Manager.
Members may not use The Club premises as a regular substitute for their office.
Children
Children are welcome and permitted to enter the premises as guests of a member up to 6pm, however they are not allowed in the Members’ Lounge, Snooker Room, Members Bar or Basement.
Children aged 12 years and over are welcome to dine at lunchtime in the Malcom Neesam Room. Children must be accompanied at all times. The Club defines children as those aged under eighteen years.
Please be considerate of other members and their privacy. The Club Manager, and in her absence a member of staff, has the full discretion of the Committee to ask members accompanied by children to leave the premises where, in their reasonable opinion, the children are behaving inappropriately or are otherwise disturbing other members.
Damage to Club Property
Members are responsible for the care of The Club’s premises and property. Any damage, however minor, must be reported to the Club Manager or Honorary Secretary as soon as possible.
Members may be required to meet the cost of any damage caused by themselves or their guests.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome at The Club, but they must be kept on a lead at all times, and they are restricted to the Snug only. The Club Manager, or in her absence a member of staff, has the full discretion of the Committee to ask owners to remove dogs should they misbehave or cause distress to other club users. Any cost incurred due to incidents or damage will be charged to the owner of the dog accordingly. Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of The Club.
Smoking
Smoking and vaping are not permitted in The Club or at the front entrance.
Snooker Room Etiquette
The Snooker Room may only be used by Members who have completed an initial induction with the Snooker Secretary. Members and their guests are required to observe the dress guidelines set out in the House Rules whilst using the room.
Members must sign both the Club signing-in book at the entrance and the Snooker Room record book located on the Snooker Room mantelpiece, and must also ensure that any guests are properly signed in.
Drinks must not be placed on the edge of the snooker tables or consumed in close proximity to the tables. All glasses and bottles must be removed after use, and the room left clean and tidy. Food must not be consumed in the Snooker Room.
Photography and Social Media
As a traditional private members’ club, we place a strong emphasis on discretion and courtesy. Members are asked to respect the privacy of fellow Members and their guests at all times. Members must not share or publicise the presence or identity of other Members or their guests, including on social media, without their prior consent.
Photography within The Club should be kept to an absolute minimum. Permission must always be sought before taking photographs that include other Members or guests. From time to time, photographs may be taken at Club events by a Club representative or an official photographer engaged by The Club. Any Member who does not wish to be included in photographs may inform the President or the Honorary Secretary.
Members may be asked to remove photographs, including those shared on social media, at the request of another Member or where the Committee considers the images to be inappropriate.
Private Events & Maintenance
The Committee may at times close part of The Club to members and their guests for private events or for maintenance. The Committee may at times close all or part of The Club for maintenance.
When there is a private event in The Club, members are asked to refrain from communicating information about the event to third parties.
Security
The Club shall not be responsible and accepts no liability for any item left within The Club. The Club operates a CCTV system for the safety of its staff, members and all who use it.
