In a bit of a coup, the Harrogate Club has booked saxophone legend Snake Davis (and band) to play The Harrogate Club on 7th December (tickets here). Snake teams up with long time cohort and best buddy Johnny Thirkell (trumpet and flugelhorn) and their mutual friend Mark Creswell (guitarist) for an evening of gorgeous mellow music infused with jazz soul and pop. We are in the company of musical royalty this evening.
Here’s just a short section of each musician’s CV to give you an idea of the kind of evening we can look forward to:
Snake Davis is one of the most in-demand rock jazz and soul sax players in the world, widely known for his solos on tracks such as Lisa Stansfields “Change”, M-Peoples “Search For A Hero” and “Moving On Up” and Take Thats “A Million Love Songs”. He has played and recorded with artists ranging from James Brown to Tina Turner to Paul McCartney, The Eurythmics to Amy Winehouse. As well as jet-setting around the world (he closed for M-People in her global stadium tour), he also tours the UK frequently.
Johnny Thirkell is one of Britain’s top trumpet and flugelhorn players. Since the 1980’s, he has played on literally hundreds of pop, rock, and jazz recordings and has also appeared on 22 No.1 records. He was on at least one album in the UK charts continuously, without a break, for over 13 years and in 2009 he had two consecutive UK No.1 singles with Pixie Lott. John was the first person to be inducted into the Musician’s Union “Hall of Fame”. His credits include Level 42, George Michael, Jamiroquai, Grace Jones, Buddy Rich, UB40, Cher, Tina Turner, Pet Shop Boys, Swing Out Sister and Lisa Stansfield. In 2015 he scored his 22nd UK No.1 playing on Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”
John left school at 16 and worked in a coal mine before heading off to Uni then to Leeds College of Music where he and Snake met. They have played together as often as possible ever since; On the road with Lisa Stansfield, Swing out Sister, backing the stars at The Royal Albert Hall Princes Trust events, jazz jams, but never before as a trio.
Mark Cresswell is an incredibly sensitive and lyrical guitarist. Between decades of being at Snakes side in The suspicions and Burden of Paradise he has also written recorded and toured with Tanita Tikaram and Stevie Williams.
What’s even more unique for us in The Club is that this is the first time these amazing musicians have toured together having played together in various forms for 20 years. Now is your chance to get your ticket, in which will definitely be a quickly sold out concert.
As ever, Terry and team will be catering for us and food is included in the price.
